Sensory Processing Problems

Sensory processing, also called sensory integration, problems occur when sensory information does not get organized into a proper response or action. It can be likened to a “traffic jam” in the brain. Certain parts of the brain are prevented from receiving the information they need in order to carry out everyday activities such as walking, listening, reading, or even eating. This is also sometimes correlated with ADHD and mood disorders.

Some individuals may only be impacted in one area such as touch, taste, sound, or light. Others will have difficulty in many areas. Treatment varies for each individual, but includes occupational and/or physical therapy. At our clinic we specialize in determining the presence of SPD and whether or not there are co-morbid disorders.
